Prelude

Prior to We Got Married, Hyun Joong and Hwang Bo were two entirely different people. Their persona on television showcased their talents and their interests, but their personalities were often overshadowed.

Hwang Bo was the first to debut in 1999 as the rapper of the group Bros, but joined the girl group Chakra the following year as the leader. The group split in 2003 and Hwang Bo began frequently appearing in variety shows. She became a regular cast member on SBS's X-man and Love Letter where she became known as General Hwang Bo, thanks to her bluntness and tomboyish attitude.

Kim Hyun Joong debuted next as the leader of the popular boy band SS501. SS501 stands for five superstars joined for eternity as one. Hyun Joong made his debut with SS501 in 2005 and in 2007, the group successfully debuted in Japan. Since then, SS501 have made plans to make a comeback in Korea in late 2008. However, a five-member comeback was pushed back when Hyun Joong was casted in the drama Boys Over Flowers late 2008.

We Got Married was not the first time Hyun Joong and Hwang Bo have met. The two had crossed paths before on the variety show X-Man, where they competed against one another on different teams. There were no real romantic developments during those earlier times, simply friendly competitions and a couple of laughs here and there.

Hyun Joong and Hwang Bo were coupled together to replace couple Alex and Shin Ae after they left the show. We Got Married is a Korean variety show airing on MBC’s Sunday Sunday Night listing. Celebrities are paired and tied together in “marriage” based on their personalities and similarities. Once every two weeks they meet up and spend the day together doing “missions” (or tasks normal newlyweds would do together) given to them by the PDs. We Got Married gives each participant the ability to act as they normally would, the only scripts given to them being the missions. This enables viewers to encounter each celebrity’s true personality.
