The Story

Hyun Joong and Hwang Bo were something of a burden when they first met. A young idol star with an older woman was certainly an interesting concept. Hwang Bo, who knew her groom beforehand, was pleased to hear who she got. Hyun Joong was expecting a cute, younger woman. For a young man naturally fearful of adults, there was no doubt it would be awkward for them in the beginning.

They first decided on a honeymoon, where they more or less weren't on the same wavelength. For Hwang Bo, there was a heavy fear for her to worry about. Becoming married to an idol meant recieving the backlash of fans. In respect for them, Hwang Bo had a hard time getting comfortable. For Hyun Joong, fans weren't a burden. He'd initially declared his ideal woman a fun friend he could get along with. Although the description fits Hwang Bo to a dot, Hyun Joong simply had to worry about the fact she was an older woman. Well mannered Hyun Joong claimed he'd never been very comfortable with adults. The idea of being with Hwang Bo on a comfortable level was difficult. Even dropping formalities took time, especially since Hwang Bo and Hyun Joong rarely talked to each other outside of filming.

Despite starting off as the awkwardest couple for the longest amount of time, Hyun Joong and Hwang Bo progressed with time, lots of time. It wasn't until their 100th day we saw visible attraction that was hidden prior. By placing their actions in the hand of another, it was like they could do what they might've wanted to do prior with solid reasoning. As Hwang Bo stated, it was no longer seeing Hyun Joong as a friend but as her husband, thus making all the difference.

Dubbed the Ssangchu(Lettuce) Couple because of Hyun Joong's cute pronounciation of the word, Hyun Joong and Hwang Bo whole concept seems to be a fun, active relationship. Very rarely are they settled inside their house for filming. It fits them perfectly, given their need to bet. The whole conception could be because of Hwang Bo's former need to have other's around when with Hyun Joong, but I honestly think they have grown to the point where they just loving going on "dates." There's a world to explore, so why not go and see it?

All in all, the PDs of We Got Married did an execellent job in matching. While it might be considered a trouble with Hyun Joong's bluntness and Hwang Bo's friendly percaution, together they balance each other nicely. Hyun Joong's laidback attitude is countered by Hwang Bo's natural ability to take control of the situation, where Hwang Bo's undemanding personality fits with Hyun Joong's child-like ideas.

With their success as a couple in We Got Married, many fans feared Hyun Joong and Hwang Bo would split because of new activites. Rumors spread that Hyun Joong would be casted into Korea's remake of the popular drama/manga Boys Over Flowers. This rumor turned into reality, as Hyun Joong was casted as a leading role. Hwang Bo, having a successful comeback with her new single So Hot, was also experiencing these scheduling difficulties. Unfortunately, it was mutually agreed between the two to end their participation.
